It's a Wrap for the 2022 Club Teams Final

Congratulations to the Open and Intermediate teams from Tauranga who took top places in their sections at the finals hosted by the Matamata club on Sunday 21-Aug. The Junior team that travelled all the way from Taupo won their section. Full results are available by clicking on the following links:

Finalists Found for the Inter-Club Teams

Full results for the Bay of Plenty Teams played between six of the Bay clubs at Rotorua on Sunday 24th July are posted on the Rotorua website. Congratulations to the Tauranga who blitzed the field in the Open and Intermediate sections to claim the Ib Thulin Shield for 2022. The Waikato results are summarised on the Hamilton website.

This clears the way for the annual finals between Bay and Waikato teams to be held on the 21st of August at Matamata. In the Open section representatives from Tauranga and Mount Maunganui will meet teams from Matamata and Te Aroha. Tauranga and Whakatane will send teams to meet Te Aroha and Thames in the Intermediates while Rotorua and Taupo have earned the right to meet Waikato and Hamilton in the Junior section. (Whakatane Juniors were, sadly, declared ineligible. Taupo will send a Junior team in their stead.) Each section will play 16-board matches against the other three teams in their grade. Results of previous years are available on this link.

Congress Moves to On-Line

We must have upset the bridge gods. Once again we are being forced to look at an alternative for Congress.

With the decision by Government to change the “traffic light system” to red from 11.59pm this evening there is no way we can continue with a face to face event, keeping players and staff safe. Therefore with regret the face to face event is being canceled. The quote by Sir Edmund Hillary when he conquered Everest comes to mind.

However we have agreed a revised programme that will allow us to play the event online.

Dates and Times for Waikato BBO Sessions

The Waikato BBO Sessions have been re-branded as the NZX Club sessions and are now homed on the X-Clubs website. By curious co-incidence that is also where the results will now be posted shortly after each session ends. At around 5:30 and 11pm each weekday, results for all clubs that play these same hands get scored across the field and posted. Our NZX Club BBO sessions will be included.

Advisory #19 from the Board

Click on the attachment below to download the Board's latest review of the Covid situation. Chairman Allan Morris has a feeling 90+% of bridge players will have had at least one jab and is seeking some hard data from clubs to determine the Board's policy should vaccination certificates appear. Will clubs then be able to mandate that attendees must be vaccinated? It's fascinating watching how the picture changes from week to week. Now it seems the strategy is shifting from elimination of the virus to finding ways of living with it.
