Teams Events under the Waikato-Bays Region's Umbrella

The Waikato Club Teams TrophyThe Ib Thulin ShieldTwo inter-club Teams competitions take place within the Region. Bay clubs meet in the Ib Thulin Shield which has been contested from 1959. Over the other side of The Hill the Waikato Inter-Club Teams (WIT) is held. Although there is provision for composite or even part teams, clubs typically put up teams in all three grades. Teams play IMP-scored matches against the others in the same grade. The Victory Points are added across the grades fielded by each club to determine the year's Teams Champion Club in that part of the region.

These events also serve to produce the two best teams in each grade. The top two teams in each grade from both sides of The Hill meet to determine which club's name will be engraved on that year's Grade Trophies. It is possible that a club might win the Bay Teams or the WIT but not qualify its Open team if that team didn't finish first or second in the Open grade. This event is sponsored by the Waikato-Bays Region and is usually a 3-match 16-board round-robin in each grade.
