Innovative Inter-Club

TrophyTrophyThe Tauranga and Cambridge clubs are about to face off in a novel cross-Kaimai competition dubbed The Great Boat Race. Wednesday nights at both clubs are of a similar nature - sociable with a fair turn-out of newer players. Both use Compass scoring which has the facility to produce competition results using players' scores from X-Clubs. By combining up the weekly club comp ladders from each club a remote inter-club event becomes possible. Perhaps this idea will catch on with other Compass clubs.

OMOKOROA’s Recipe for Success.

Omokoroa's LearnersOmokoroa's Learners• Take one happy friendly Bridge Club whose numbers, due to their average age, are sadly slowly declining.
• Take 34 Players wanting to keep their Bridge Club alive.
• Have a keen Captain and Committee ready to try anything.
• Take all members of the club getting behind their leaders and ready to give them support.
• Add Jane Stearns “How to Rejuvenate a Bridge Club”.
• Add a dash of NZB support and W/Bays RBM

What's been happening recently out there in our clubs?

Apart from the usual plethora of localised celebrations of the successes of various players in club competitions we have:

The annual round of lessons in most clubs is coming to an end. Star performer this year has to have been the Omokoroa club who, like the kiwi, have hatched an egg almost as big as itself. They started the year with 35 full members and 5 affiliates. Working to prescription with Regional Bridge Mate Eunice Eccles they attracted 27!! beginners of whom 24 ran the course of lessons and 22 will likely join the club. A HUGE success story!

Good Works at the Settlement Centre

Isn't it totally amazing how much some people can accomplish? Not only is Jane Stearns devoting four whole days a week to her responsibilities as a board member of NZ Bridge but she has been taking on the tuition of migrants and refugees at the Settlement Centre in Hamilton.

Congratulations to Waikato Bay’s winners in the Inter-Provincial Trials.

Intermediate IP TeamIntermediate IP TeamThroughout New Zealand last weekend, keen Bridge players were competing for the honour of playing for their Region in the Inter-Provincial Teams, a national competition which will be held in November in Auckland.

The trials to represent our Region were held in Tauranga over two days. Four teams of four players were selected to represent Open, Seniors, Women’s and Intermediate groups.

Letter From The Chair

21 May 2018
Welcome and I hope everyone is getting plenty of enjoyment from their bridge.
I am regularly asked as to the well-being of Alan Dormer. I caught up with him about a week ago. He is feeling better but does have off days, like we all do.
