A highly successful first outing in 2018 for Nick Whitten's Mini Moos programme. There is a new Mini Moos menu provided under the Initiatives tab above to provide a home for this invaluable programme. Along with the long-standing Bay Pairs and the Waikato Area Pairs, the Mini Moos and the TWITs are of great interest to many Waikato-Bays players at different stages of their bridge careers.

Barry Jones and Mereana CullenThe first ever broadcast of The Bridge Zone was aired on Wednesday 27 June. A team of eight bridge enthusiasts from Hamilton, Waikato and Cambridge clubs have teamed up to broadcast The Bridge Zone. They hope to raise awareness of the game and encourage people to take part whilst engaging existing bridge players in topics of interest.

Hosted by Community Access Radio and broadcast on Free FM89 the crew of volunteers have learned how to create and record a radio show. Barry Jones and Mereana Cullen co-presented the first show. If you missed it – you can catch it by clicking here

Sorry for the delay, Sunday 27th May saw the Tauranga Club host the second round of the Bay Pairs.
Winners on the day were Rachelle Pelkman and Murray Woods. Second Marion Kelly and Julie Sheridan and taking out third Stephen Francks and Mike Newton
Top non open pair on the day were Pam Miles and Eric Burnie, play out of the Kawerau Club.
Top Intermediate Ruth Sweatman, top Junior Mike Newton both playing out of the Tauranga Club.

TrophyThe Tauranga and Cambridge clubs are about to face off in a novel cross-Kaimai competition dubbed The Great Boat Race. Wednesday nights at both clubs are of a similar nature - sociable with a fair turn-out of newer players. Both use Compass scoring which has the facility to produce competition results using players' scores from X-Clubs. By combining up the weekly club comp ladders from each club a remote inter-club event becomes possible. Perhaps this idea will catch on with other Compass clubs.

The annual round of lessons in most clubs is coming to an end. Star performer this year has to have been the Omokoroa club who, like the kiwi, have hatched an egg almost as big as itself. They started the year with 35 full members and 5 affiliates. Working to prescription with Regional Bridge Mate Eunice Eccles they attracted 27!! beginners of whom 24 ran the course of lessons and 22 will likely join the club. A HUGE success story!
