Hats off to Kawerau

Fun was the order of play on Tuesday evening for by members of the Kawerau Bridge club this week. Members and friends arriving wearing a variety of different hats to take part in a singles night and to participate in a Mini-Bridge session. The event was organised to give members the opportunity to experience how beginners begin to learn Bridge at their initial lessons. "Rather like playing SNAP compared to the excitement of Bridge" observed one experienced Bridge player.

After nine tournaments, the final intermediate event at Cambridge wrapped up and also decided the top of the Intermediate League and who won the coveted Barclay Cup.

What's been happening lately on the region's websites

The Rotorua site is seeking to update the personal information of its members. This is both topical and typical for clubs at this time of year as they prepare to print their 2018 programme books. There is a quite brilliant feature in Compass that not many people have tried though it's been there for a while. In the Club database under the EMail Options tab there is a function to email or print for all members a personal dump of just what data is held on them by Compass. This seems a pretty good way of getting everything squeaky-clean at any time.

KAWERAU HOSPITALITY

Newly appointed Regional Bridge Mate Eunice Eccles travelled with NZB Board member Jane Stearns over to the Kawerau Bridge Club on Tuesday. The hospitality shown to them will now become legendary - the members provided a feast for us to enjoy while discussing their club and its future. As Kawerau rarely feature on the Waikato Bays website - here are a few pictures to put them firmly on the map.

Babich Upon Us

The Babich NZ-Wide pairs is to be held at various centres around the country on Friday 3rd of November. To date the only Waikato clubs that appear to have registered are Cambridge, Hamilton, Huntly, Morrinsville, Taupo, Thames, and Tokoroa. This is a fun evening with everyone playing the same cards at the same time. Last year it attracted over 1000 pairs. Some clubs arrange to gather for a meal of pizza, curry, or the like and a glass of the sponsor's product beforehand. This year the event is going international with one section playing a couple of hours after they fly to Rarotonga on a bridge holiday. Register at the host club.

Winners of the Junior League decided

It was a Te Aroha 1,2 & 4 (equal) in the Junior League decided today at Te Awamutu after 6 junior tournaments held throughout the region.

Well done to Charlotte Jager from Te Aroha who played in every event and topped the field in half of them to give her a convincing win with 38 points.

Second place went to Victor Kooter, Charlotte's regular partner who missed one event to hand the overall result to Charlotte.

I really appreciated the opportunity to participate in the Intermediate Pairs, Teams & Swiss Pairs. It was an amazing experience, & inspiring to participate in such challenging card-play.
