New Tricks

The season draws to a close and the IT Manager's thoughts inevitably turn to getting things set up for 2018. There are a couple of new tools to make the job even easier this year.

Are you using one of the bridge-club.org websites? Milan has developed a way of adding a year to the 2017 programme entries to make them the 2018 programme entries. What used to be the massive job of re-inputting all your events can now be reduced to a simple editing job. Unless your committee has thoughtlessly changed things they should fall right back into line. In Milan Admin click on the Extras tab and you'll see Next Year Schedule. Follow your nose through that and decide whether it's quicker to edit everything before switching it on or after.

For users of Compass, setting up the next year's programme has always been pretty easy but did you know that you can export the current year's one to Excel and make your changes there? It's a great way to tidy up the numbering too. But .. not only that but .. now, for a generic session like Monday mornings at Cambridge where there are no competitions, you can use Compass' new Intuitive Dates mode which doesn't require an explicit entry to be made in the Club Calendar of Events. If there's not one there it will assume you want to just play whatever the usual X-Club session is for that time slot and, as the man himself says, "Bob's Your Uncle".

If there are any tips and tricks from other scoring systems and/or website providers we'll be quite happy to publish them here.
