Success for W/Bays Teams at Interprovincial Championships

Fantastic Results for the Waikato Bays teams competing in the final of the New Zealand Interprovincial Bridge Teams Championships in Wellington this weekend.

Four teams of four players competed representing Waikato Bays in different levels.

Winning IntermediatesWinning Intermediates
The Intermediate team comprising of two Mount Maunganui players, Bren Birss and Pam Pederson with Brian Gallaher and Brian Sullivan of Waikato Bridge Club won their section against tough competition from teams from the rest of New Zealand. A great achievement!

WINNING SENIORSWINNING SENIORS
Every member of the Senior team belonged to the Tauranga Bridge club. They also had great success winning their section. Congratulations to Murray Wood, and Rachelle Pelkman, Tony Hacking and Pat Rutherford.

When the combined score for all four sections was calculated to find the overall winner of the prestigious Douglas McLean Trophy, Waikato Bays came a close second to Wellington.

Chef de Mission,once again, Karen Martelletti from the Tauranga Bridge Club, said “I couldn’t have asked for a better team. As a Region we have never won two of the sections or come second overall. I am so proud of the team.”
