2017 Inter-provincial trials

Thanks to all who participated in the inter-provincial trials over the weekend. As usual, it was very well organised by the Tauranga Club, and smoothly run by director Dallas Dagg and scorer Jan Spaans. We had 20 pairs participating in the open/women/seniors field, and 8 intermediate pairs which was a pleasing turnout.

New Season Gains Lift-Off

The tournament scene at the start of a new year always seems to take a long time to get going. There's all those stat weekends and delays in the programme to allow for people attending likes of the Canberra and Gold Coast Congresses but FINALLY there comes a sense of buckling down and getting into it. The first of the Bay pairs took place at Whakatane last Sunday .. in tandem with the third round of the WAPs at Te Aroha. Links to results may be found under the tab in the top menu.

Big Round-Up Expected at Papatoetoe

Some Minor Miracles

There was a frisson of excitement throughout clubs in the Region as the quarterly Ranks Report was released just before Easter. If you've never heard of those before, they report the top ten most successful players by gender in each of the ten ranks (like in the army: Boot Camp to Brigadier corresponds with Unranked to Gold Grandmaster). You may download your own copy by clicking here.

Rubber-Dub-Dub

The Waikato-Bays section of the national Dan Gifford Rubber Bridge competition started at Putaruru last Sunday 9th April. There was a good turnout for Clare Coles' presentation on what it's all about and a number of first-round matches were completed either side of a very fine lunch organised by members of the host club. The ladder may be viewed under the Results tab on this site. The Cambridge club has gotten so enthusiastic about rubber bridge that they've organised a rubber competition for non-Juniors alongside the Junior Championship series starting this Wednesday.

Challenge to all WB Clubs - it's time for Rubber Bridge again!

As you undoubtedly know, each year the Dan Gifford Rubber Bridge competition is played at National Congress and pairs from all regions participate.

The Waikato-Bays has had some very good partnerships in the past who have given the other regional pairs a good run for their money, including Christine and Jenna Gibbons who won the national title in 2012.
