Several clubs note the advancement in Grade of their members with the new year. There are only three grades - Junior, Intermediate, Open and they change but once a year when the year-end annual calculations are performed and certain benchmarks are achieved.

Also produced at this time are the fourth quarter's Ranks Reports which can be the reason for much celebration. These reports are available on the NZ Bridge website.

Thames and Waikato Bays threw a great tournament to herald in the New Year. Over 140 people turned up to compete in one or more of the four competitions taking place over the three days.

NZ Bridge, loathe to allow the ship to sink for want of a ha'pworth of tar, is coming to the party in time for the new season by funding the screening of its excellent movie trailer in a number of theatres around the country. Leaving it up to individual clubs and the regions to initiate didn't work .. which was a shame as it's quite a good sequence. NZB is also encouraging clubs to pick up on Hamilton's radio jingle in advertising their lessons. Both items can be accessed under the Resources tab above.

The Board's Position:

Spreading the JOY to all newbies over Christmas ... open access has been provided to the acclaimed MINI-MOOS package. Details of what it's all about may be seen under the Resources tab above (Mini-Moos item). Anyone is invited to use any of the material which is freely available in Dropbox. If clubs were willing to deal the boards for anyone keen to continue learning over the holidays, it would be way better than random deals to play the Mini Moos deals with guided commentary on bidding and play.
