Grade Teams Final thrashed out at Cambridge

Teams from each end of the region gathered at Cambridge on the last Sunday of August to sort out who would be taking home the three Grade Trophies. This was the final stanza of what started off as the Inter-Club Teams in the Waikato, and the Bay Teams in the Bay of Plenty. The winning and runner-up teams in each grade from each region met in Cambridge to play in three parallel round-robins of three 16-board matches. An Intermediate and a Junior team came all the way from Whakatane, and a couple of Intermediate teams traveled from Thames and Taupo.

The seventh round of the Waikato-Bays Championship League for Intermediate players took place at Te Awamutu on Saturday the 12th. Winning both sessions and the overall earned Mark Thomson and Jeffrey Chang of Hamilton the maximum score of nine points for the day. They also regained the lead in the competition from their co-IP-reps, Hattie Curtiss and Bruce Ballard of Waihi/Katikati to edge ahead on the ladder. With just two more rounds to go on 9th and 30th of October this competition could be pretty close.

As intimated above, the huge happening of Week 32 was the Cambridge Sixes. You can read about it from different perspectives here:

Thank you to Pub Charity Ltd.

The Waikato Bays Regional Committee applied to Pub Charity Limited for funding to assist our Inter-Provincial representative team with accommodation in Dunedin at the end of the year. We are very pleased to announce that the application was successful, having receiving $6653.74, which was the amount we applied for, minus the GST component.

Our committee is extremely grateful to Pub Charity as their grant ensures we are able to fund other activities rather than siphon off our funding in this area.
