WB Teams Grade Trophies Final at Cambridge on 28th August

With the Bay Teams settled over the last weekend of July, the Waikato-Bays Grade Teams Final is all teed up. Click here to read Tauranga's well-deserved delight at doing so well at Rotorua.

New boards filled with cards donated by BridgeNZNew boards filled with cards donated by BridgeNZPat and Martin Oyston of BridgeNZ in Wanganui have supplied the Waikato-Bays Region with a shiny new set of 32 bright yellow boards for educational use, donating all the of cards needed to fill the boards. Initially these boards are being put to good use by Jane Stearns as she gives the Huntly club a dose of her special magic.

I/J Leagues take another step forward at Tauranga

The fourth round of nine in the Waikato-Bays Intermediate League Championship took place in Tauranga on the 18th of June. The room was packed with a field of 33 players. Peter and June Hagan of Tauranga had an excellent day, coming top East-West in the morning and top North-South in the afternoon to win the day outright. They had a clear lead over second-placed John Little and Graham Saunders of the Waikato club who were followed by two of the region's nominees to attend the Inter-Provincials in Dunedin, Hattie Curtis and Bruce Ballard of Katikati.

WB Inter-Provincials Team Named

The Waikato-Bays Inter-Provincial Teams trials were held at the Tauranga Bridge club on the weekend of 14th-15th May. The director was Rona Driscoll also Chair of the WB committee and the scorer was Jan Spaans, the WB secretary. These two combined to make the whole weekend seamless and enjoyable by everyone.

X-Clubs and Pianola

There are a couple of exciting new developments are happening in this area.

  • Vil Gravis, long-time respected Grandmaster (since before 1992) has started contributing commentary on the X-Clubs Home Page
  • Pianola reporting is now available for all X-Clubs sessions. Click here to Register for Pianola results e-mails.

Nominations for Regional Committee

The close-off date for nominations to your Regional Committee is just a week away. Nominations must be made in writing using the appropriate form which is attached below.
They must be in the hands of the secretary of the Waikato-Bays Regional Committee by the 30th of April.

Waikato Area Pairs Begins

Although not strictly a Waikato-Bays Regional event, the Waikato Area Pairs certainly involves at least half the region. It has its equivalent on the other side of The Hill in its sister event, the Bay Pairs. In recognition of the popularity of these two features in our local calendar these events now have their own sets of pages under the tab in the main menu above.

National Bridge Teachers Conference Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July 2016.

Clubs have been notified about this event via a poster from Richard Solomon (richardharoldsolomon@gmail.com). As it is a two day event, please contact Richard if billeting is required.

The Waikato Bays Regional Committee would like to see as many of our teachers attend this conference as possible. Therefore, club teachers attending this conference can apply to the regional committee for a $50.00 contribution towards costs, and we hope that clubs can also make a contribution.

Should you wish to apply for this, please email the WB secretary and provide your bank account details. Payment will be made in the week after the conference.
