Whip Around the Traps

Let's see what's been happening around the websites of the region:

Cambridge .. two Juniors made it through to the semifinals of the WB Rubber competition and went down gracefully to last year's winning GM's ... seminar from HeartSafe on the use of the AED (defibrillator) stored at the neighbouring St John's station. One is noticing a marked raising in awareness of these devices - saw Hamilton Bridge Club has its very own one.

Hamilton .. another successful major event handles smoothly - well - TWO events on the same day - the 5A Swiss with 22 teams running alongside the fifth round of the WB Intermediate League which drew 14 tables. And marking the passing of Mona Corlett just a few days short of her 100th birthday.

Piako .. now including Morrinsville along with Matamata and Te Aroha .. Anna has put up a bit about the new Laws to come into effect on 1st of August. See attachment by Kathy Yule.

The Mount .. celebrating the rampant success of members Mike Nicholson and Carol Cullen 10 points clear of the field in the WB Intermediate League .. and advertising next Saturday's triple-header of Intermediate and Junior Leagues with a Novice session on the side.

South Waikato .. Ross Provan of Putaruru has had the excellent notion of publishing the Law Book - one small point at a time. These seem to be covering those quirky little situations that do occur .. really interesting stuff there, Ross. Good idea!

Rotorua .. is girding its lions in preparation for hosting the Bay Teams at the end of the month. The top two Bay of Plenty teams in each grade will go forward to meet their counterparts from the Waikato (already known) in the final play-off for the Grade trophies at Cambridge on the 27th of August.

Tauranga .. it's been there for a while but worthy of note: Tauranga has been using a prepaid voucher system with the aim of becoming totally cashless when it comes to collecting table money. You can read about it by clicking here. Cambridge introduced the same scheme when Jane Stearns brought the idea back from her travels .. and it's working well. Tauranga has their annual Save the Children charity tournament this Wednesday. Plenty of room left still ...

Thames .. good initiative going on at Thames this week with the start of their Bridge 4 Fun series.
