Roundup - Week 49

Congratulations to the Huntly club for yet again turning on a great end-of-season tournament. The talent that comes out of the woodwork in fear and trembling of the approaching dearth of bridge. It was like squirrels storing nuts against the winter! The top dozen places were a virtual Who's Who of bridge at the pointy end of NZ.

Check this out ... can you guess which club's committee would go to the trouble of dressing up as Fairy Tale characters? Yep - it's Tauranga who have a very, very long tradition of having FUN at such times. It's good to see this ethos taking hold at many other clubs around the region. It wasn't so long ago that the majority of bridge clubs seemed rather dour and sombre places but, thanks to the leadership shown by a few - mainly younger - members the masses, like the burghers of Hamlin, have followed along gladly enough.

There is much to be done on club websites in preparation for the new season coming at warp speed. All those About Us pages need updating with new officers, and club and tournament programmes must be re-worked. This Waikato-Bays site is no different. While it will link direct to the clubs with their own websites, it would be good if off-line clubs followed suit to Waihi's lead in supplying updated details. More importantly, we need to set up a few early tournaments so that people can enter on-line and even view posters on our Virtual NoticeBoard - the blue box to the right here.
