Sounds like the Seven Dwarves: Happy, Sleepy, Thoughtful, Dopey, Friendly, Well-Fed .. etc. But no - it was a day at the Cambridge clubrooms to sort out the winners of the Waikato-Bays Grade trophies. The four finalist teams in each grade - two from each side of The Hill - met at 10am (well .. 9:30, most of us. Michael and Mary-Ellen appeared at 10 blaming Auckland traffic)(but they missed the excellent morning tea) to play a round-robin of three 16-board matches. There was a break for lunch after 8 boards of the second set before carrying on to finish play on schedule at 4:30pm.

Michael Neels, following his roles as director and scorer, put on his Waikato-Bays committee member hat to present the prizes.

Top Junior team was comprised of Mike Nicholson/Carol Cullen and Bren Birss/Pamela Pedersen from the Mount Mauganui club.

In the Intermediates the team from Rotorua won: Wendy Blackman/Roger Dempster and Rex Tullough/Joyce Reid.

And Tauranga took away the Open grade trophy for only the second time in eight years. They were Ken & Kathy Yule and Jo & Sam Simpson.

Full results may be seen on this and the Cambridge site - the date was the 30th of August. A summary of results is available here.
