Bridge Fever Grips NZ!!

.. and it's really gripping!! Check out the NZB report on the record-writing Bridge Blacks' fantastic performance at the Bermuda Bowl overnight 21-Aug NZT. Never before had a New Zealand team made it to the quarterfinals and now our lads have advanced to the semis after defeating the Netherlands in Lyon, France. Plenty of excited chat on the NZB Facebook page too.

The purpose of this strategy is to provide NZ Bridge Board, regional committees and clubs with an agreed common purpose and high level plan.

Two Big Events ..

Event 1: Daily reports on the progress of the three New Zealand teams (Open, Senior and Women) in the 43rd World Championship in Lyon, France are now available on the NZ Bridge site from Monday 14th August. Live matches may also be viewed on BBO as the draws advance. See also Jane Stearns' interviews with members of our teams on the NZB Facebook page.

Bermuda Bowl about to begin

Perhaps the most well-known event in world bridge, the Bermuda Bowl is about to take place from August 12-16 in Lyon, France. The playing schedule is attached below.

Something that is adding local flavour are the articles that Jane Stearns is putting up on the NZ Bridge Facebook page. Jane is doing in-depth profiles of various team members - Kris Wooles, Michael Cornell, Matt Brown, Jena and Christine Gibbons, Barry Plamer, and Steph Jacob have given fulsome interviews to date ... and they make fascinating reading.

Whip Around the Traps

Let's see what's been happening around the websites of the region:

Cambridge .. two Juniors made it through to the semifinals of the WB Rubber competition and went down gracefully to last year's winning GM's ... seminar from HeartSafe on the use of the AED (defibrillator) stored at the neighbouring St John's station. One is noticing a marked raising in awareness of these devices - saw Hamilton Bridge Club has its very own one.

Free Entry to Congress Anyone?

To encourage people who aren't regular congress goers, the Waikato Bays Regional Committee are sponsoring up to four people to NZ Congress to the value of $200 each. You can either self nominate to go into the draw ... or your club can nominate worthy recipients. Check out Anna's blog on the Piako site.

New Laws .. Matamata .. 9:30 Sunday 2-July

Entries (for catering purposes) may be made on this site.

News from Around the Region

It's been a while, but follows a summary of earth-shattering items that have appeared on club websites around the region over the last couple of months:

New Season Gains Lift-Off

The tournament scene at the start of a new year always seems to take a long time to get going. There's all those stat weekends and delays in the programme to allow for people attending likes of the Canberra and Gold Coast Congresses but FINALLY there comes a sense of buckling down and getting into it. The first of the Bay pairs took place at Whakatane last Sunday .. in tandem with the third round of the WAPs at Te Aroha. Links to results may be found under the tab in the top menu.
