Letter from the Chair

Click here to download the full content of Allan Morris' latest newsletter. In it Allan reports on last week's Zone 7 AGM on the Gold Coast which was attended by Rona Gianarrigo, President of the WBF. Zone 7 of the World Bridge Federation includes Australia and the Pacific Islands. Alister Stuck, our very own permanent secretary of NZ Bridge, also performs the same function for Zone 7.

Allan also mentions the South Island Teams which were held the week before the Gold Coast Congress and we hasten to add our congratulations to Ken and Kathy Yule of Matamata who made up half the winning team.

The Gold Coast Congress itself was most impressive. It was claimed to be the largest Congress in the southern hemisphere. Over the week more than 2600 players took part and on the Wednesday more than 560 tables were in play. The increase in the number of players is from those in the novice, restricted and intermediate events.

It was of interest that there were 269 New Zealanders playing the Gold Coast. NZB would like to see more and more intermediate, juniors, and novices playing tournaments here and, of course, at our own National Congress.
