NZB Website Improvements Listed

Alister Stuck, permanent secretary on New Zealand Bridge reports on upgrades made to the website in the last three weeks

Transfer of Australian Masterpoints

We now have an automation function in place enabling us to transfer these on a monthly basis. I have cleared the backlog from last year and have run the files for the first 4 months of this year.

Google Maps function on the Club’s page on the Website

This has failed for some time and rather than seek a solution we have removed this. The Clubs page on our website should load much faster as a result and you will no longer see the error on screen.

Secondary Club Records

This function has been corrected so that a player can’t have a home and secondary Club that is the same.

Masterpoint Search Function

We have streamlined this so that only a player name or computer number is needed. This will make simpler and faster for players to search their history and is not dependant on a date range being loaded.

Rank and Grade for new players

A minor change has been made when loading a new player record. The default rank is novice and the grade is Junior. The system will no longer list a novice player as open grade as has been the case previously.

Deceased Player Records

When a player is recorded as deceased their record will transfer automatically to the archive club. Also if the player concerned happened to be registered online they will not receive an email regarding this transfer.

Tournament Entry Function

Improvements have been made to stop the errors where only one players name was uploaded for a tournament entry. Also a player will not be able to amend or cancel an entry online after the closing date for entries. They will need to contact the Club direct to make such a change.

Masterpoint Certificates

A correction has been made so that players who gain additional stars will receive a certificate. This has not worked for some time and unfortunately I am unable to produce backdated certificates for that period. I am still having to outsource the formatting of the Certificates and I very much appreciate Keith Nicholas who manages this for us.

Historical Player Records

I have arranged for the historical player records to be transferred over from the old system. While this will make the database cumbersome for a time it does mean that we will no longer be issuing former players numbers to new players. Until now this has been an issue for returning players who find that their original number is no longer available. I will be working with the developers to look at supressing the archived records so that the working database is not oversized.

We have a number of further enhancements being looked at and I will report further as they are tested and rolled out.

In the meantime thanks to you and club members for your patience as we work through things.

Regards
Alister
