WB Intermediate League Down to the Wire

After Sunday's penultimate heat of the nine events scheduled for the Waikato-Bays Intermediate League we have a tie for first on 28 points between Eunice Eccles of Cambridge and Malcolm Kirkby of Te Aroha. With five other players six or seven points behind there is an outside chance that these two could be overtaken. It is possible to score the maximum of nine points for the final day at Cambridge on 28th October. Eunice and Malcolm just need to turn up to get one point and another for a total of over 50% will all but put either of them out of reach. Of course we expect better than two points from the leaders!

Have you been listening to The Bridge Zone? Produced on Community Radio FM89 it is now the second-most downloaded podcast and has been picked up by four other regional stations for broadcast in their own areas. Hosts Barry Jones and Mereana Cullen of Hamilton combine lively repartee with some riveting interviews. Very easy to listen to.

The Waikato-Bays Regional Committee has come up with a Youth Funding Policy starting 1-Jan 2019. The final structure will be written up and published soon but the gist of it is that reimbursement for half of tournament entry fees to the value of $150pa will be claimable by players whose birth year is registered with NZ Bridge. Claimants' home clubs and the tournaments themselves must be in the Waikato-Bays region.

It is with sadness that we note the passing last week of Joyce Catchpole, a most likeable lady who was a stalwart of the Matamata, Hamilton, and Cambridge clubs.
