Calling All YOUTH Players

New Zealand Bridge has, for a long time, maintained a register of Youth players for whom the opportunities are immense! At the pointy end, players of only a few year's experience have found themselves representing New Zealand at overseas venues. Closer to home NZB runs a training weekend in Wellington which costs attendees mere peanuts. And around the country clubs and dedicated people are only too keen to put youth players on a fast track to success.

Youth RegistrationYouth RegistrationAs we were saying, NZ Bridge's register just got a lot easier to maintain. Clubs do it. To be eligible to compete in a Youth event a player must, at the most, have their 25th birthday in the calendar year in question, e.g. for 2018, be born in 1993 or later.

How you can Register
Ask your club to ensure your year of birth is recorded in the new membership Admin screens. Once this had been done you, and your club, will not be charged a levy by NZ Bridge as youth players are exempt from such a charge. From now on this will be the Youth Register, as there will be real data to find eligible Youth players.

One more thing: It is now possible to record a preferred name on the NZB form. Some scoring programmes will use this name when producing results or displaying on table-top scoring devices. This could be handy should you wish to keep a more formal appellation with NZBridge for, say, the printing of your first Grandmaster certificate.
