Record Attendance at the Cambridge Sixes

According to directors Murray and Caroline Wiggins - who should know - the Cambridge Sixes is not only the long-claimed biggest one-day event in the country but also the third largest after National Congress and Hawkes Bay Congress. This year they were pleased to attract a record sixty-six tables to their sixth birthday. Held at the magnificent Sir Don Rowlands Centre bordering Lake Karapiro the fun-loving crowd was able to enjoy the sunny terraces over lunchtime. The catering was, as usual, sumptuous. Two things go to making up a memorable tournament - the food and the venue. In those respects alone it would be hard to top the day. The bridge was almost a sideshow. Results may be seen on the club website.

I have to share this with you .. the Mount Maunganui entry that won the prize for the Sixes dress-ups. For the second year in succession these ladies turned up in the most amazing gear. The Tauranga Bridgemates also put on a good show, as in previous years, to take second. And there's another Tauranga team that consistently keeps winning the Trivia! Not only that, but in the sideshow Tauranga did remarkably well. Some talented folk over in The Bay there.

In Other News: Rotorua's Ruth Lewis recently won NZB's Volunteer of the Month award. You can read Ruth's story by clicking here.

Quote of the week from Tauranga's site: :If bridge is just a game then the Grand Canyon is just a hole. And also on the Tauranga site we see that Norm Silcock is having a Significant Birthday. Happy birthday Norm!
