Bridge Blacks in Play-Off for Bronze at Lyon

Our amazing Open team the Bridge Blacks are challenging for the bronze medal in the Bermuda Bowl in Lyon, France. The matches will be live on BridgeBaseOnline on Thursday night 9pm, 12.30am and 3.20am and then Friday night 9pm and 12.30am. Five 16 board matches. Please let your club members know of this opportunity to tune in and watch their team in action.

This is also an amazing opportunity for all clubs to use their success in a media campaign to bring bridge to the forefront. At NZB we have been solidly sending media releases to all national papers, TV, radio and online news hubs.

Here is an article that appears on the Radio New Zealand website.

All clubs can raise their profile on the back of this success. We will forward to sending you on Saturday 26 August a proforma media release which you can use or adapt. Or you can, of course, write your own. Please make a submission to your local paper if you can. Any link to your club, however tenuous, can be used:

MICHAEL CORNELL – attended Linfield College Mt Roskill, Auckland. Lives: Remuera

MICHAEL WARE – born Tauranga. Attended Wangitarau College. Lives: Central Auckland.

MATTHEW BROWN – born Whangarei (Northern Advocate already given release) attends Auckland Uni studying computer science

GeO TISELVOLL – lives: Hillsborough

ASHLEY BACH – lives: Australia

MICHAEL WHIBLEY – lives: Auckland. Studying ecology at Auckland University

Westport Bridge Club have led the way, featuring on how Michael Ware is the current holder of their Open pairs tournament title. Their local paper have published as a consequence.

Please use your imagination – if you have never had any of these players visit or play at your club – but you have been cheering them on – a photo of your club members with a NZ flag behind them, or sticking feet with black socks in the air – are all newsworthy at a local level.

Make a plan now for how you can get a story to your local paper and we will send you some information to help you on Saturday morning. Check with any close neighbouring clubs too – so there is no wasted effort.

And … GO the Bridge Blacks!!
