New Season Gains Lift-Off

The tournament scene at the start of a new year always seems to take a long time to get going. There's all those stat weekends and delays in the programme to allow for people attending likes of the Canberra and Gold Coast Congresses but FINALLY there comes a sense of buckling down and getting into it. The first of the Bay pairs took place at Whakatane last Sunday .. in tandem with the third round of the WAPs at Te Aroha. Links to results may be found under the tab in the top menu. Rubber bridge is into its third round and we've even seen Hamilton's Ladies Day take place this week.

The second round of The Waikato Interclub Teams (TWITs) took place last Friday night. Oscar found a new home for May at Hamilton, Indie went to Te Awamutu and Junior will have to be shared week-about by the Lucky Tens composite team. See details here.

Follow-up from last week's snippet about Jane Stearns' pioneering work with new immigrants in the Suth Auckland region: the Papatoetoe club with whom Jane has been working had 44 people turn up to its first evening of lessons last Monday night.

Finally .. a wry tale of the difficulties faced by keen bridge players in search of a quiet place to play their match in the Rubber.
