Waikato-Bays Teams Bragging Rights Decided at Rotorua

On 25 August 12 teams gathered at the Rotorua Clubrooms and competed for the WB Interclub trophy’s for Open, Intermediate and Junior bragging rights as the best team in the Waikato Bay of Plenty Region. The finalists, 2 from each side of the “main divide” competed in each category. The teams were

Open: Tauranga, Mt Maunganui, Hamilton. Waikato
Intermediate: Te Puke, Thames, Tauranga, Waikato
Junior: Taupo, Matamata, Waikato, Rotorua

The matches were 16 boards against each team in each category, with play starting at 10am and each category played the same hands with IMP’s being converted to Victory Points. The play throughout was conducted with a great spirit and camaraderie with the Director (Alan Dick) and Scorer (Jan Spaans) being kept somewhat busy with ensuring correct cards were out, and queries and rulings dealt with in good humour.

The results were emphatic in the Open and Junior sections with the winners clear of second place by more than 5 VP’s. The Intermediate competition was ,however, extremely tight all day with less than 3 VP’s separating the entire group at the end of play and with little between the teams after all matches.

Winners were, and congratulations go to:
