WB Thames Festival Hugely Successful

Your regional committee's foray into Tournament Management over the weekend of January 8-10 went very satisfactorily. Thanks to the hard work of several Thames club members ably lead by new president Carol Crowfoot with great backup from a surprising number of non-combatants, the players were able to enjoy an almost seamless delivery of this iconic event.

Directed by Tony Morcom and scored by secretary Jan Spaans, the tournament was ably fronted by chairperson Rona Driscoll. Sunday's main event was renamed the Allan Barclay Pairs in honour of the man who did so much to keep this concept afloat for its eleven years. Trophies and prizes were presented by Denise Barclay and Allan's son Greg who traveled up from Papamoa to make a fine valediction in support.

We have had to correct "seamless" to "almost seamless" because, after this article was first posted, it came to light that there were some scoring corrections which should have been made in Sunday's MultiGrade Pairs. This was because of a restart occasioned by a late arrival ... long story but it caused a bit of subsequent unraveling at the seams. First and second places were swapped around - sorry, Greg and Jacob.
