About this new web site

The Waikato Bays Regional Committee agreed some time ago that the website used at www.wbbc.co.nz had too many restrictions for modern web site use. The results publication method and the results themselves in text form were still from the ark and photos couldn’t be uploaded. We decided to take the regional web site to the 21st century.

The Waikato Bays committee has people with different and multiple sets of skills, who combine very well together. Michael Neels, for example, has built several web sites for clubs inside and outside our region and was the obvious person to build our new website.

What is different / the same compared to the old web site:
On the new web site, all NZ Bridge affiliated clubs are listed and their details. If details of your club are not correctly displayed, please contact Mike by using the Contact form in the top menu. This list, by the way, saves you having to list any Waikato club in your Favourites folder – just come onto www.waikatobays.bridge-club.org and click the club name.

Tournaments held in our region are listed on the tournament page. The example below shows clubs with a “details” link, which shows about the event itself. You must go to the club’s web site to enter that particular tournament.
Clubs, who do not have a tournament entry module or do not have a web site, will have an “enter” link beside the listed tournament. You can enter by clicking on that link, you will receive an automatically generated confirmation email with a code. This code can be used when the partnership entered has changed or needs to be withdrawn. The details of your entry are automatically forwarded to the club’s tournament secretary.

Results publication:
Those clubs that have been in the habit of posting results to the old website (or not) now have a choice:

  • Under the Results tab there is an item General Results to which Te Puke and Rotorua have already posted some files. Because both those clubs have electronic scoring they get to see full detail of contracts and leads, but it also works well for manual scoring. You just need to contact Michael Neels to arrange for installation of a nifty little program that makes publishing your Compass results just one click of a button. General Results will also be the home of WBRC events like the Leagues, the WAP, the Bay Pairs, and any regional tournaments.
  • If your club would like its own results as a separate item on the Results tab, the supplier of our website offers to host such a service for $100 a year payable through the WBRC half-yearly $50 in advance. This is a service normally priced at $18 a month.
  • As the present wbbc.co.nz site will go off-line on 31 December 2015, clubs can continue using it to post results until then. After that any such clubs must make their own arrangements.

Dropbox Integration
Clubs and interested parties are strongly recommended to accept an invitation to a special Waikato-Bays Clubs Info folder in Dropbox. In this folder is stored all sorts of useful information – WBRC Minutes, the new WBRC Policy Manual which is the envy of other Regions, a handy Tournament Posters folder to name just a few. With membership to this folder anyone can contribute items and work with editable files.
In particular we would like ALL clubs producing a tournament poster to file a pdf copy in the folder provided. This will be a valuable reference point for, eg, the vexing question of whether or not lunch will be provided at the tournament you’re just heading off to. Use the Contact form to ask the Secretary for an invitation if you haven’t already got access to this folder.
