News from Around the Region

It's been a while, but follows a summary of earth-shattering items that have appeared on club websites around the region over the last couple of months:

Cambridge

  • Membership tops 200 for the first time in living memory
  • Calum and Eunice, both Juniors, have been skittling Grandmasters to reach the semifinals of the Rubber competition
  • Cambridge retains the Fairlands Shield for the ninth time since 1988 in its annual match with the Te Awamutu club
  • Cambridge pairs running first and second in the WAPs

Hamilton

  • Handy link direct to the results pages of other clubs (an alternative to using this site)
  • Nice pic of Lesley, Nigel, and Kathy winners of the annual Ladies Day 3A
  • Shocking News!! Rugby is deemed more important than Bridge .. the club cancelled its Tuesday night when the Lions played the Chiefs

Piako

  • Te Aroha and Matamata have now been joined by Morrinsville as the three clubs share one website. We look forward to seeing even more contributions come through.
  • Morrinsville successfully held its first tournament using their new BridgeTab table-top devices on the 10th of June. These impressive Android devices ran under the Compass scoring software and the results posted to the new website
  • Matamata and Putaruru have an interclub thing going on too. This one is restricted to Junior and Intermediate pairs with the Waihou Sheild at stake

Things are still ticking over at the Mount Maunganui club. Good work there Julie Sheridan.

Huge news for the Tokoroa club. It is to host the penultimate session of the WAPs on the 30th of July. This will be their first tournament in seven years. Good to see you back in the swim, Tokoroa!

The Rotorua club is looking forward to hosting its annual 5A tournament this coming Saturday 24th June. A goodly field of 23 pairs is signed up with five days to go.

Taupo Bridge Club site looking good. Nice breezy front page with lots of club news and celebrations of members' successes. The club is offering seminars on the changes to the Laws that will come into effect on 1st of August. This site advertises the visit of Chief Director Murray Wiggins to Matamata on 2nd of July to explain the changes.

They've always been BIG on the occasional dress-up at the Tauranga club. Take a look at these crazy photos to see the marvellous costumes they wear! Big day for the scorer Karen Martelletti last weekend in handling not only both Waikato-Bays Intermediate and Junior Leagues but also a Novice event on the side.

And, to wrap up, it's business as usual on the Te Awamutu, Thames, Waikato, and Whakatane sites.
